Japanese Woodblock Print: Twelve Months of Kyoto, November by Tomikichiro Tokuriki
This beautiful print is one of a series of twelve Tanzaku prints, illustrated by the wonderful Kyoto artist Tomikichiro Tokuriki: Kyo Juni-ka-getsu (Twelve Months of Kyoto).
This woodblock print is dated 1939. Star-like red and yellow acer leaves cascade down the long scroll-shape image, against the soft greys of the suspended branches. The vermilion bridge picks up the colour of the vermilion leaves. It is an enchanting image: a snapshot of the beauty of Kyoto in the fall.
Before establishing Zusetsu I had a long career as a successful children's book illustrator.
It is a real pleasure to discover beautiful woodblock prints in Kyoto for our Zusetsu Art store. All of our art is selected especially for its artistic merit. We are thrilled to be able to offer beautiful woodblock prints to you at affordable prices: they create wonderful gifts.
