I discovered these gorgeous little paper Christmas trees in Snow Peak's London store, when I was recently invited to hold furoshiki and tenugui gift-wrapping workshops there.
I was so intrigued - they look amazing! - and I was so surprised to discover how easy they are to make.
We can make these little paper decorations for you, using our beautiful chiyogami papers that shimmer with gold detail.
Here, we are using our large 15cm chiyogami, but you could scale the same design up or down and make your Christmas trees truly like a magical forest!
1. Place your origami paper on the table.
2. Turn the paper to the reverse side.
3. Fold both of the corners diagonally like this.
4. The creases on your paper should look like this.
5. Now fold your paper edge to edge, like this, first one way, and then the other way.
6. The creases on your paper should now look like this.
7. Turn your paper so that it is a diamond shape.
8. Locate the bottom square and fold the corners in on itself.
See the two photos below for how the shape will look.
9. Now, raise up one of the sides, like this.
10. Flatten it gently with your finger so that it creates a shape like this.
Do this for every side in turn.
11.Once you have done this to all of the sides, your paper will look like this.
Press the shape down so that it is flat, and note that you have a triangle shape that is coloured paper.
This will be the base of your Christmas tree.
The white paper below the coloured triangle you are going to cut away (see below!).
12.You will end up with a triangle of coloured paper, like this.
13.You will have an 8-sided shape that is the beginning of your Christmas tree.
14. All you do now is make 3 snips part-way into the edge of the paper.
You can make each snip parallel to the base of the triangle.
Then, you take the innermost part of the top edge of the snip, and fold it so that it creases towards the outer edge of the lowest part of the snip.
It creates a triangle that you can fold with your fingers.
Take a look at the photo below to see.
Once you've finished one side you can do the same three folded snips on the next side.
Keep going until all of the sides of your Christmas tree are finished!
You can create the Christmas trees in different patterns of chiyogami for a wonderful effect!
But, if you would prefer to have your Christmas trees ready made, we are offering them for sale in little packs of 3!
You can buy them here!
Thank you for reading!
Have a very happy Christmas,
